Vintage camping trailers will add an all new flavor to the 4th Annual Summit Racing Equipment Atlanta Motorama when the gigantic automotive festival returns April 22-23, 2017.

Camping trailers were first produced in the early 1900s, not long after the automobile came along. They became popular for adventurous outdoor enthusiasts who could travel many days over the road while still having the security and ease of their own personal items to help them feel at home.

While bigger, better and more expensive versions of trailers and RVs are produced every year for campers across the globe, the trailers on display during the Atlanta Motorama will be classic throwbacks not produced after 1989.

Spartan, Yellowstone, Shasta, Airstream and Avion are just a few of the many classic brands that will be represented, and spectators will have the opportunity to view and peek inside at what vintage camping is all about.

Though several trailers are resto-mod projects, many vintage trailer owners have preserved their original interior furnishings, making only slight modification for ease and functionality.

Alan David, organizer of the locally-based Georgia Vintage Campers group that's more than 100 members strong and has been rallying across Georgia for over 16 years, will be among the many owners showing their prized possessions at the show. He said that trailer camping has seen an increase in popularity in recent years and that his group welcomes anyone interested in getting in on the fun.

"My goal is to have a group that can offer a fun and relaxed camping experience to anyone that wanted to attend," he said. "We always exclude extra rally fees so that we can accommodate anyone on any budget."

Owners will be available to greet show attendees throughout the weekend and answer questions about the hobby.

For campers interested in bringing their own vintage trailer to the 2017 Atlanta Motorama, the regular $50 registration fee will apply, and vehicles can be signed up by visiting www.atlantamotorama.com.
